Folate: You have probably seen the word folate on cereal boxes, other food packaging and possibly in the current multivitamin you take. There are major differences with folate. Your current multivitamin probably has the ingredient folic acid listed on the label. Even the popular multivitamin Centrum includes folic acid as an ingredient.

The Folate Difference – Folic acid is a synthetic form of folate and is not bioactive. Bioactive means to have the capacity to interact with living tissue or a living system. For folic acid to be of use within the body it must be converted to a new form of folate called tetrahydrofolate. This conversion must be accomplished by the intestines and liver before folic acid can be used by our cells for the a myriad of metabolic reactions.

How Easy is it to Transform Folic Acid to a Usable Form of Folate in the Body?

When the liver and intestines are hard at work trying to remove daily toxins, absorb other essential nutrients or a host of other normal functions, it can be too much for the human body to perform yet another function such as converting folic acid. Un-metabolized folic acid will then enter the bloodstream and be taken up by cells. The folic acid, which is biologically useless, then it can actually inhibit folate-dependent chemical reactions.

DNA and Folate Absorption

When folic acid is not converted properly, folic acid can cause genetic mutations within the cells. That impairment makes it even more difficult for the cells to transform folic acid into a bioactive folate.

Our own folate genetic clinical studies showed that 50% of the test subjects had a genetic variation of the enzyme that is required for the complete conversion of folic acid. Other clinical studies have shown the rate of genetic variation is 25%. But even one quarter of people unable to convert folic acid to folate is a real health concern.

Folate metabolism requires the following conversion when folic acid is used as a supplement:

At least 25% of those taking vitamins will never be able to convert folic acid to the 5-MTHF that is needed for their health. The additional downside is that the health of those who are unable to convert folic acid to 5-MTHF will already be in a depressed state because of the genetic mutations caused by folic acid in their cells.

5-MTHF (Methylfolate) and Why it is Used in the JNK Multivitamin

Methylfolate is a naturally occurring folate and it requires no extra steps by the body to be absorbed. It is readily taken up by the cells and is immediately usable. Methylfolate is the only folate that can cross the blood-brain barrier.
The few other multivitamins that use 5-MTHF instead of folic acid are priced over $30 per bottle. That is because they do not manufacture vitamins, but only put their private label on the bottle. Manufacturing the JNK Multiple Formula is how we can price it at only $10.85 per bottle.

We should also include some information about some of the other vitamins in the JNK Multiple Formula. We have selected 100% pure vitamin B12. Vitamin B6 is also important when you include vitamin B12 and folate in a supplement. We use pyridoxine HCL 98%. You will not find other multivitamin brands disclosing the purity of their B12 and the percentage of their vitamin B6.

Another thing to look for in a multivitamin is the addition of synthetic vitamins that have been included to help keep the price down or to increase profits. Take Centrum as an example. The small print on the label shows that their vitamin E is in a form called “dl”. The “l” in “dl” means the vitamin is derived from a synthetic source. The difference between synthetic and natural vitamins becomes apparent when viewing their response to a beam of polarized light. The light when passing through a natural vitamin will always bend to the right due to its molecular rotation. Thus the letter "d" (representing "dextro" which means "right") often appears on labels. However, the same light ray when passing through a synthetic vitamin will split into two parts, one part bending to the right and the other to the left. Because the synthetic vitamin is half "dextro" (right) and half "levo" (left), the letters "dl" often appear on labels at the beginning of the synthetic name.

A synthetic vitamin is like an image in a mirror. It looks like the real thing but doesn't function like the real thing. Half of it will work in the body and the other half won't work as well.

If we take another look at the Centrum label, we’ll find in their fine print things like FD&C Blue No. 2 Aluminum Lake. Centrum adds this dye so the color of their product can be blue in color. You will find the JNK Multivitamin to be natural in color because we really do not feel there is a reason to cover up a natural color. And we definitely do not add any synthetic dyes to a product.
